......one thing is for certain, Music is Powerful!

Hi,

I’m Robert Rask, and I have always had a passion for woodworking and the creative process. From 6th grade woodshop, to building some of the best skateboard ramps known (in our neighborhood), to an obsessive furniture making hobby, to owning a woodturning business for 5 years; woodworking is  literally in my blood. I’m a third generation woodworker, and now passing it on to a fourth.

After buying my first guitar in 2006, I started to learn to play. What immediately followed was a curiosity about how these instruments were built. I started talking to luthiers. I read books. I studied for 2 years before I built up the confidence to say, “I can do this!!” The first build took years, but was one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences of my life. I see it as a co-creation. I get to take some of the most beautiful materials that have already been created, and create something new with them.

The best part is that I can then hand that creation off to someone that can take it and create something incredibly powerful with it, The Power of Music!.....

Music has the power to heal, motivate, and inspire.

The fact that I get to build instruments that help to create something so powerful is overwhelmingly fulfilling.

So little is understood about the power of music, but one thing is for certain, Music is Powerful! It has the capacity to captivate, stimulate, motivate, inspire, soothe, and heal. It has the means to transform every emotion in the human experience. It’s a universal language. It enhances learning. It improves memory. It develops our brains by literally creating new synapses. It brings us together. It eases our pain. It deepens our relationships. It improves performance both mentally and physically. It increases blood flow. In some cases, it’s been known to save lives.

The top (soundboard) is the engine that drives the majority of the tone of a guitar.

There are so many factors that help to create the individual sound you'll get out of that guitar. The wood you use, how stiff that particular piece of wood is, the shape of the braces, the brace placement, the species of wood you use for your bridge and bridge plate, etc.

I'm still in awe of the complexity of how these things work!
